The reason it's considered better than Durarara for most people is that Durarara focused way too much on Mikado, Masaomi and Anri while Baccano gave most characters even screentime, and a lot of people didn't like those three, while most characters in Baccano are universally liked. The 2 things I do really like about Baccano are the opening and the dub. It wasn't bad, I just didn't see how it was better than Durarara!! I am planning on giving it a second chance. I tried watching it and I didn't really like it. If you can dig REALLLY deep into this forum you can see me utterly fanboying over it. It's basically Durarara but in the 1930's and with better writing and characters, though the story is more complicated. If you like Durarara I'd highly recommend Baccano. Is anyone here watching Fate Zero? I'm on episode 9You Talking about Durarara? It was stopped as far as I know Durarara is coming out with a second season Durarara is great, but I'd much prefer a second season of Baccano! since that might be my favorite anime (still choosing between it and Fate/Zero) and it needs a second season. It's not that he is a bad character, I just hate his personality. The characters in Baccano are good, but the only character I did not like was Ladd Russo. Durarara is darker when it comes to setting (dark- lighting, big city at night, etc.) but Baccano is more serious. I would like to see them get their own spin- off series. I wished it focused more on Kadota's gang, they were fun. I see your points, and you are right about Durarara when it comes to the characters. Also IMO Durarara couldn't decide whether or not it wanted to be lighter or darker than Baccano. Durarara is non-linear but not as much as Baccano. Also a lot of people liked the more non-linear plot in Baccano. Also I personally like the setting more in Baccano.
